New Year's Food Brings Wealth, Right?

For New Year's Day we did the traditional meal.  The girls helped break up the collards and put the filling in the deviled eggs (not pictured since we forgot about them till later).  Me, JD and the girls enjoyed cooking together and it was a pretty tasty meal.  The placemat is actually one of the six I made.  They each have a different word like "Honesty", "Love", "Family", etc....  I'm loving burlap and looking for any reason to incorporate it into my decor.

What is Love?

Love is God.  God is love.  This is what we're studying together as a family.  I purchased a heart-shaped chalkboard in the dollar bin at Target.  We began this on January 1 and will continue through the end of the year.  According to info I found online there are over 600 verses referring to love in some way or another in the Holy Bible.  This is more than enough to carry us throughout the year (and into the next if we choose to).  We want our children to understand God's commandment for us to love Him and each other.  So, each person has to pick out a verse(s) and write it on the chalkboard each week.  I purchased some colored chalk at Wal-Mart and ODD just loves delegating which colors each person will use.  She's sassy like that, but she's enjoying it.  She actually begs to pick one even when it isn't her turn.  Here's a couple of pics of some we have done so far.

I must share my adorable bracelet I bought at Icing which was what inspired me to begin this new project.
Isn't it just adorable?  I think so.

I'm Thankful For.............

For the entire month of November each person was required to write one thing they were thankful for.  Since life can be hectic we actually ran over into December with it, but we each have 31 days worth of things we're thankful for.  ODD had an old composition book she never used that was bright and cheery with a huge peace sign on it.  This has now become our "Book of Thankfulness".  I plan on creating a cover for it, but that may be something to work on this coming Fall 2012.  I'm proud of each of us for committing to come up with something even if it was silly.  This will be something we do every year until we run out of pages in this book (then we'll buy a new one).  I believe it will be fun to look back and see how much has changed each year.  Some entries were serious from the heart ones and some were simplistic.  The whole point of this project is to open our eyes to the little things (not just the big) that we may take for granted.  There was a rule that we had to actually think and couldn't fill pages with I'm thankful for person 1,2,3, etc....  With a family of 6 that would fill up about a week's worth.  They also couldn't make it things like trees, grass, cars, etc...  It would have to broader like "I'm thankful for nature because...........".  That was another requirement.  It wasn't just merely what you're thankful for, but also WHY?  I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed hearing each other's responses and I look forward to making this a tradition.  We did it last year, but wrote it on single pages (which will be slipped inside of the book once I find them).  It was easier last year because it was just what we were thankful for and we had to see how many things we could come up with.  That's where the rule came about not specifying each and every individual speck of dirt, creature, pore, etc...  Yes, it got ridiculous.  So, I believe this year it will truly be considered a tradition since it will be year number 3 for us.

It's been a while

I just updated the site with new info yesterday. I hope to be able to add more soon. These days my pregnancy is just making it too difficult to work on this. I'm hoping to have updates on Colton's room soon, also.
